This is a great place to find out about working with Logo. >Is this group going to be useful to me in using HyperStudio, or is it only >for MicroWorlds (which I know nothing about)? I think this group can be useful to you and I think you can be useful to the group. I am glad you are here. We discuss a lot of Logo and Logo related stuff here. Microworlds is just one kind of Logo environment. There are many others. Hyperstudio, as you know, has Logo as it's scripting language. It is kind of buried in there, though. I really like Hyperstudio, but for different reasons than I like Logo. Microworlds, in my opinion, has nearly everything (maybe everything) that Hyperstudio has, but it is in a much freer environment. Hyperstudio has the advantage that it is easy to get up and going on useful projects quickly. Microworlds and other kinds of Logo environments have the advantage of having a much higher ceiling of possibilities, although the learning curve may be a little steeper at first on the multimedia stuff. >I am developing multimedia >programs to use in my classroom--I teach hearing-impaired and >visually-impaired multidisabled children. Are these programs that you are developing for your students to use or are they programs that your kids work at developing? If it is the former, I think Hyperstudio is a very good tool. If you'd like to get into the latter, there are many kinds of Logo available ranging in price from free all the way up to very reasonable! :-) A resource you might already know about for Hyperstudio is the Hyperstudio Journal webpage. Sorry I don't have the URL handy, but a search on the Web for "Hyperstudio Journal" should yield location. Bill Lynn operates the page and incidently has a tremendous interest in making computers accessible to people with disabilities. >So far, I can't follow much of anything that y'all have said, and maybe I >am out of my element. A lot of the postings lately have been very "programmer" oriented (which is neat, I think), but our topics range widely. There is something here for everyone who loves kids and computers.
