Actually, if you want to publish your code in a book, you're likely
to find yourself in just this situation!  I had to rearrange a lot of
code to fit the margins in CSLS.  :-)

Well, at least we agree about CCMail.  :-)  As for Unix, there are lots of
different mailers, some of which are MIME-savvy.  The trouble is that those
ones also tend to have unbearable GUIs, and what's worse, they quietly
reformat your incoming mail file so that you can't go back to your old
mail reader.
